Biography
 
  • Born in 1963.
  • 1977 - studied classical, flamenco and ragtime guitar with Bob Oort, and remained his student for four years. During this time, he played in the school stage bands and rock bands, both on electric guitar and bass. He also became proficient at playing drums, copying what his brother learnt from his drum lessons.
  • 1984 - First payed gig playing jazz on bass. Subsequently hired for bass playing rather than guitar with other bands and artists, it stuck and specialised in bass playing. Studied Jazz with James Morrison.
  • Studied musicianship at the NSW Conservatorium of Music in Sydney.
  • 1984 to 1986 performed with James Morrison, Dan Barnett, Yoern Harris, Graham Hilgendorf, and other young jazz musicians.
  • 1987 – 1992 Accepts a scholarship to complete a Bachelor of Music Degree at the Rubin Academy of Music and Dance in Jerusalem, specialising in Jazz performance on electric and double bass. Performed with prominent Israeli jazz musicians, such as Itsik Shetrit, Amos Hoffman https://www.amoshoffman.com/, Jean Claude Jones, Boris Gammer, https://www.borisgammer.com/ , Steve Pascoff, Steve Horenstein, and Jerry Garval. https://www.merryrecords.com/garval
  • Made a living from performing in wedding bands and tourist show bands, as well as teaching guitar and bass.
  • 1990 to 1991 - Resident bass player at the Jerusalem Khan Theatre www.khan.co.il, playing four nights a week in the backing band.  
  • 1992 to 1993 Resident bass player in the internationally acclaimed tourist show Horah Israel, an Israeli dancing troop spectacular that toured internationally every year. Toured with them in France and Germany.
  • 1994 - Simon returned to Australia. Forms his own soul band.
  • 1995 -  present - Bass player in Princess (retro/dance/smooth jazz) performing in pubs, clubs and corporate functions around New South Wales, and went on tour to Papua New Guinea with them in 1996.  
  • 1997 – 2006 - Bass player in On Heat (rock/country covers).
  • 2001 -  Sister Act, a concept band playing songs from the movies Sister Act, Sister Act 2.
  • Currently playing double bass in The Northern Jazz Band, with former members of the Freshie Jazz Band.
